Cool Internet Tricks

Here are some sites and tools I have found on the Internet that I think a lot of you may be interested.
This is a very good online encyclopedia. There is a ton of information on basically any subject you can think of. It's pretty much a Google for encyclopedia information. The good thing is that it's open source, if you see something that is wrong you can change it. That's how Wikipedia gets it's information, anyone can post an article and anyone can edit an article. Because Wikipedia has a huge following in the higher education world it's very reliable with accurate information. Make sure to check out the welcome or FAQ page to see how it all works, it's very interesting.
Are you sick of those emails you get that have crazy pictures or stories. It's hard to know what to believe when it's on the Internet or in an email. This is where Snopes comes in. The people who run Snopes go and check out the claims in many emails, on the Internet and general Urban Myths. Check out the email or story you were just sent at Snopes and you will know if it's real or not.
This is one of the coolest things I have found online lately. Do you get annoyed at web sites requiring logins to view their content. It's merely an attempt to gather your personal information and send you spam. There are sites I avoid because I don't want to set up an account. This is where Bug Me Not comes in. When you get prompted to sign up for an account so you can login and view website content, copy the URL from your browser and head to Bug Me Not. Paste the URL into Bug Me Not and it will give you a username and password to login. Then you don't have to give them your personal information. Read below for info on the Bug Me Not Firefox Extension.
For those of you who are using Firefox (Which you all should be), you need to get some Firefox Extension. These are small programs that run within Firefox to enhance your experience. For example there is a Bug Me Not extension, read above for Bug Me Not info. Basically whenever you are prompted at a site to register to view content, just right click in the username box and select Bug Me Not. The extension will instantly give you a username and password to login, without you supplying any personal info. I also recommend Forecast Fox for weather info. There are a ton of others you can browse and easily install.
An advanced feature of the Google map service is that you can view satellite images with your maps. Go to Google Maps and just search for the address you want to map. Then click on Satellite or Hybrid (I prefer Hybrid) then you get a satellite image of your map. You can click on Directions to get directions to or from that location. It's fun to just view the satellite images of places you have been, or check out your house. They pretty much have an image of the entire world, so check it out.
