Moab Pictures

I made it back from my trip to Moab Saturday night. It was a great trip and I had a lot of fun, we did a lot of biking and even a little hiking. The weather was great, it only rained on Saturday which was our last day anyway. It's too bad for the 24 hours of Moab race that was taking place that day, but our group came out unscathed by the rain. Here are more pictures than you are ever going to want to see. However, once I collect pictures from the other guys that were there, I might post more. As always, click for a larger version.

This is Bartlett Wash, just a fun area of Slickrock Waves to play on.

Another Shot of Bartlett Wash, you can see me in the distance on my bike.

Another "Action" shot of me on my bike at Bartlett Wash. The rock was actually pretty smooth to ride on, so it was easy to get some speed and some nice air.

Although it doesn't look like it, I am actually in the air in this picture. Check out the shadows, again it's at Bartlett Wash.

The road out to Bartlett Wash was completely washed out, Moab had record breaking rain the week before we arrived. Normally you can drive the road right to the wash, however due to the mud we were forced to ride our bikes out there and subsequently got a little bit muddy in the process.

Our next ride was Klondike Bluffs. It's an intermediate ride, it's not too technical but there is a fair amount of climbing. It's about 800 vertical feet in 4 miles. The trail ends at the entrance to Arches National Park, you can leave your bike and go on a short hike into the park. This is a picture after that hike from the top of Klondike Bluffs in Arches National Park.

Again at the top of Klondike Bluffs with some of the guys from our group. James Packer, Kent Baxter, Me, Ryan Bradley, Ryan Baxter and Dave McMillan.

Here is my attempt at an artistic shot, again at Klondike Bluffs. Normally there is not puddles around the area, but due to the rain there was a lot of water up at the top. There are Cairn Stones that mark the path to the overlook, because there is no real designated trail. This Cairn Stone happened to be in the middle of a puddle and I thought it looked cool.

That evening we spent sunset at Dead Horse Point. This is an amazing overlook into the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. It's quite a spectacle and it was really cool to be there at sunset.

Here is another shot of me standing at Dead Horse Point.

The next day we headed out and rode the famous Slickrock Bike Trail. Here is me at The Abyss Lookout part of the ride.

This is James Packer showing off some of his moves in front of the Abyss Lookout on Slickrock.

We did have some wrecks, "Carnage" as we liked to call it on Slickrock. We actually saw a large blood splatter just before the hill where this wreck took place. However Peter, the kid involved in the wreck that caused this bike repair, came out pretty well considering the condition his bike was in. His derailleur was bent into his spokes and we had to bend it back with a rock. He made the ride back with less than his full set of gears. At this point we split into two groups, some of us went on and completed the loop, those that didn't think they could make it turned around and went back.

Here is a view from Swiss Cheese Ridge on Slickrock, this is a view into Moab itself.

This is myself and Ryan Baxter (My Cousin) standing at Shrimp Rock on Slickrock. This marks about the halfway point of the ride. At this point I was still feeling strong and able to take pictures. Not long after that I started losing my energy and therefore didn't really feel like taking pictures.

Saturday morning we took a hike up to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park. It was really impressive in person, we had fun walking and hiking around the are. We were lucky and were granted about 30 minutes at the arch before other tourists started to arrive.

Another view of Delicate Arch.

This view has me standing underneath the arch. Granted I am not very tall, but you can see how massive this really is. I recommend to anyone visiting Arches to take this hike, it's well worth the hike.
