Albums, Movies etc...

Lately I have had a lot of discussion through email about music. Specifically I have had a discussion with Dayton and his brother Derek about favorite albums and songs of all time. Josh and I have also been emailing back and forth about the new Tool album. This got me thinking that it might be fun to include some of this discussion online and see if anyone else has something to add. I thought it might be fun to do it with movies as well.
So what I am going to do is pick what is considered by some as a "great album" or "great movie", these could be favorites of mine or favorites of friends and family. I will give my take on it and anyone who wants can make comments and let everyone know what they think. I also thought it would be fun if we could post our favorite lyrics and/or movie quotes from these albums or movies.
So to start I wanted to talk about two albums, Dayton and I listed both of these on our top twenty. (Click on the Band: Album title for a link to Wikipedia and more information about each album)

Pearl Jam: Ten

This was one of the first albums that I really loved and played over and over again. In fact it's one of the only CD's I have ever worn out. It was part of the big Seattle Grunge Movement, I think Pearl Jam, Ten stands the test of time from a genre that didn't.
Some of the my favorite songs of the album include:
Evenflow
Alive
Black
Oceans
and of course Jeremy

Pearl Jam: Vs.

Another great album from Pearl Jam, the first CD I went to a midnight release for. I remember being at Hastings in Riverdale and they played the album while we were all waiting in line to buy it. Released at midnight they also had a bunch of posters and things to give away. Midnight releases are standard practice now for a lot of bands, but it was the first time I was that excited to listen to new music from one of my favorite bands.
Some of my favorites on the album:
Animal
Daughter
Rearviewmirror
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town
And Go

Let me know what you think.

Wow, tough question. That's like asking me which of my kids I like best.
Oddly, my favorite PJ song ever is "Alive" from Ten which is the first song of theirs that I heard and I've heard it probably 500 times but it still sounds fresh to me.
I remember when Vs. came out, it was considered a disappointment compared to Ten and I didn't like it as much at first. But, it eventually hooked me and I listened to it a ton. The fact that I came to appreciate it gradually and the fact that the song themes seem more varied and some funny sarcastic songs put it just ahead of Ten for me.

Ty, you never picked a favorite.

Ok, so my favorite album of the two is Ten. I just kept listening to it and loving every song, even after Vs. was released. My favorite PJ song is Jeremy, I like that it tells a story and I love how the vocals sound so emotional. Although I agree that it's difficult to pick just one song out of two great albums.

Seeings how you guys don't seem to do much work anymore and have plenty of time for analyzing things like long songs and movies. (seriously, how do I get a gig like that - I'll trade ya!) I thought you might be interested in this article in the NY times about your beloved tool!

Just kiddin - he can't read yet!

It's amazing how productive a lunch break can be.
Great article on Tool, thanks. It's a good read for anyone into music, not just Tool.
So I am not doing Birthday posts anymore. I did it for a year and I was always worried I would miss someone or offend someone. So I figured I just wouldn't do it anymore. But Happy Birthday Jantz, the gift is coming down with Grandma Gibson.
